The weather in the UK must truly be awful, as the latest gaming generation stay indoors and embrace the new generation consoles. The Nintendo Wii is poised to overhaul Microsofts yearlong start with the Xbox 360.Featured Whitepaper

"If you sell them, they will come" is the mantra of this generation of home entertainment units, and Nintendo seems to have the wood on the others, as it continues to power on. Despite what many of us think in the gaming media, the fad does not seem to be dying, despite a real lack of "must-have" software, the Wii continues to sell whatever units Nintendo can stack on shelves. In the UK especially reports are filtering out that quantify that success. At its current rate of sales (four to one over the Microsoft Xbox 360, and a whopping six to one over the Sony PlayStation 3), the Wii will surpass the lifetime sales amount of its predecessor, the GameCube (about one millon), by the end of September. Following that the next target is competitor Microsoft'x Xbox 360, which on current rates it will overhaul some time before the end of October. I imagine this may well stretch out as Xbox 360 price cuts, and games such as Halo 3, Mass Effect and BioShock will move many an Xbox 360 between then and now. Worldwide according to the (possibly dubious) scores at Video Game Chartz , Nintendo's Wii is lagging behind the Microsoft Xbox 360 only marginally with sales of 10.41 million units to 10.43 million Xbox 360's. The PlayStation 3 is still puttering along at a steady pace 4.16 million. Actual sales may differ from these, but even if they are a bit out, it shows the continued popularity of Nintendo's box-o-fun. Now all the Wii needs is more top unit-shifting games to truly stamp its place in gaming history. |
