Australian PS3 60GB starter pack to disappear soon E-mail

Less than a month after it was announced, Sony plan to drop the PlayStation 3 ‘starter pack’ from Australian shelves.  Okay, but what will replace it?

As reported on Gamespot.au it seems that the ‘starter pack’ that us lucky (!) PAL territories received instead of a price drop may be short-lived in Australia at least.

The ‘Starter pack’ consisted of the PS3 60GB non-Emotion engine equipped (PS2/PSone backwards compatibility hardware) game console, two extra SIX AXIS controllers, along with two excellent games in MotorStorm and Resistance: Fall of Man.

All for the RRP of AU$999.95 (though some retailers have already started to discount this).

According to the report, recent correspondence from Sony Australia indicates that this offer will end on August 31, or when ‘stocks run out’.  Having only introduced the offer on August 2, this gives potential Sonyites less than a month to snap up the offer.

Or

Wait for the inevitable ‘what will replace it’ announcement.

Given that the 60GB model is no more overseas, it is most likely that Aussies will see some sort of 80GB PS3 grace their retail shelves.  Probably continuing at AU$995.95, probably still without the Emotion engine hardware, and probably without such called for additions as a HDMI cable or rumble controller.

Look for more on this soon no doubt.
