Following on from the success of the inaugural event last year and coupling up with the Game Developers Association of Australia (GDAA) conference, this years eGames & Entertainment Expo promises to be bigger and more informative than ever.  In what is looking to be a pivotal year in electronic entertainment, what will this expo deliver to consumers?

Last year iTWire was invited to the inaugural eGames & Entertainment Expo at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre.  Along with 15,000 others, we witnessed a much needed - given this is now a AU$1 billon dollar industry - combination of trade show, guest speakers and industry information.

We were also able to truly feel the excitement of changes in the industry, Microsoft announced the add-on HD-DVD drive for the Xbox 360, Sony showed us a glimpse of the PS3 and Nintendo got the crowd truly fired up with demonstrations of the forth coming Wii buzz.

With a year under their belt, organisers of the eGames expo have broadened their vision for the 2007 event; “The inaugural eGames & Entertainment Expo was incredibly well received by the industry and public alike and buoyed by this success, plans are now well underway for an even bigger, better and more exciting event which will be sure to wow the games and entertainment industries alike,” commented Noel Gray, Managing Director of Australasian Exhibitions and Events.

“We had great feedback from last year’s exhibitors, who recognised that eGames lived up to its promise of becoming the definitive industry event for Australia. As a result, we expect to dramatically grow the event to cater for the increased demand from exhibitors and visitors alike.”

“We will also be featuring a much greater range of digital entertainment products on the show floor, alongside the traditional games companies.  We have reserved additional floor space at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre as we know that once again, the eGames & Entertainment Expo 2007 will be a mecca for games enthusiasts and the general public alike. Anyone interested in the latest technology and electronic gadgets for personal and home use will love eGames,” he added.

All the major companies are due to have a presence at the expo, with competition and innovation in the industry at an all time high, expect these guys trying to out gun each other for consumer attention over the entire three days.

The eGames & Entertainment Expo will be held at the Melbourne Exhibition Centre from 16th – 18th November 2007.

Side by side with the expo this year, the Game Developers Association of Australia have scheduled their own annual conference.  Bringing together the industry with a consumer orientated show such as the eGames Expo will be a ripe time for both sides to learn more.

Observing wide-eyed game fans wandering the show floor, rubbing shoulders with exhibitors, and other gamers from casual to hardcore through to competitive will be an targeted ‘ant-farm’ style experience that should be invaluable to the folk from the GDAA.

Similarly the GDAA should receive a massive boost in exposure, providing possible support to an industry that, of late, has been crying out for resources in a continual effort to ride the wave of success enjoyed by the local industry over the past years.
