Council chose to invest in the Centennial Discovery solution after attending an asset management seminar by leading systems integrator, Data#3. The Council selected Discovery due to ease-of-use of its graphical interface, and appropriately priced functionality, ensuring positive return on investment (RoI) in-line with an existing 10-year Council budget plan.;br /> Implementation was completed remotely by Data#3, with Council providing access to its network via a remote access-key. Within a couple of hours of installation, Centennial Discovery was already relaying data back to the IT department. “We had a good understanding of the number of Microsoft software licenses we had previously purchased, but required clarification on how many of these licenses were actually being used,” said Rob White, Support Team Leader at Hervey Bay City Council. “We wanted the ability to quickly and easily rationalise software licenses, allowing us to more effectively identify and retire what wasn’t in use without having to perform a manual audit.” “Following the initial audit, we were pleasantly surprised we were only about 15 licenses out from where we thought we were,” said White. “Discovery gave us peace of mind in identifying that we were well on our way to being successfully compliant.” Audits of Hervey Bay City Council’s software inventory were originally done manually every six months, taking two to three weeks to complete. “All license audits are now done automatically, where every machine in the fleet is cross-checked against an IT asset database, saving valuable time and money that would otherwise be spent on manually checking every single PC,” said White. “Now at the click of a button, all relevant information can be accessed through a simple dashboard on the desktop, while the addition of user-friendly graphical interfaces means we can more readily identify areas where we are over-licensed.” “In terms of functionality and overall value for money, Centennial Discovery ticks all the boxes for why local Councils go to market for an asset management solution in the first place,” said Howard Waterson, Asia Pacific Regional Manger at Centennial Software. “Are machines being over utilised or under utilised? Which machines are approaching the end of their life-cycle? Is now the right time to cut our losses and invest in hardware maintenance, or could we buy new equipment for under-utilised licenses? With Discovery, local Governments are able to address these questions without costing an arm and a leg,” said Waterson. |
