NASA has postponed the launch of the Phoenix Mars Lander for 24 hours.

The delay is due to forecasts of severe weather, which will prevent the Delta II rocket's second stage being fuelled as planned.

"Although fueling is expected to be finished Wednesday morning, there is insufficient contingency time in the schedule to move forward with the launch on Friday," NASA officials said.

The available launch times on August 4 are 5.28am and 6.02am EDT. NASA TV and web coverage will begin at 3.30am.
