E3: Sony finally revamp the PlayStation Portable E-mail
by Mike Bantick
Thursday, 12 July 2007
At the Sony E3 press conference the electronics giant gave us the new slimmer PSP, will it compete with the all conquering Nintendo DS handheld?

There have been price drops, camera add ons and pack rebundles of the Sony Handheld media gadget the PlayStation Portable (PSP), but finally a redesign of the hardware itself is nigh.

Still sporting the failed UMD format for games and movies the new PSP is 19 percent slimmer and an amazing (and needed) 33 percent lighter.

Battery life expectancy has also been increased, supposedly dramatically.

The new PSP is only a minor change from the original and now features a video out capability so that games and those UMD movies you bought can be seen on the big screen at home.

Like the Nintendo DS, the PSP will come in a choice of colours; the original black, ice silver and a limited edition Star Wars themed PSP (white, with Darth’s image on the back).

A new entertainment pack has been announced including a 1GB memory stick, a copy of Daxter and a Family Guy UMD.  This will arrive in September and be priced at US$199.99
