3 has launched neXt, a website that enables mobile phone uses to find and suggest applications and websites optimised for mobile phones as well as post ratings and comments. (The similarity to the name of Telstra's new 3G service, Next G, is purely coincidence, of course!). The new applications available on 3 neXt are not controlled or sponsored by 3, but 3 says they have been through a basic review and typically rely on a higher than usual amount of Internet use, which compliments the X-Series packages. Noel Hamill, 3's director sales, marketing and product, said: "The tools and applications featured on neXt are some of the most exciting developed for mobile broadband. As the neXt community grows and more people suggest applications and mobile sites to try, that mobile experience will extend further – and I'd encourage Australian developers working on applications for the mobile to check out neXt and consider submitting their service for review." Tools and applications available at launch, suggested and reviewed by the beta community include: ShoZu, an award winning video and photo-sharing software; Jaiku Mobile, the popular micro-blogging application; Map24, the well-liked mobile mapping application; ComVu PocketCaster, which turns your mobile into a webcam; Vringo, a video ringtone application; Widsets, a widget allowing personalised management of RSS, blog and picture feeds The neXt portal can be accessed at both http://www.next.three.com and through mobile devices at 3next.mobi{moscomment} |
