Just what the world needs? Fat suctioned from the stomack, buttocks, or thighs is then injected within one hour into the breasts for a new type of breast enlargement technique.

Actually, medical researchers are seriously studying the medical technique for women who have had mastectomies (surgical removal of the breasts, such as in cases of breast cancer) and wish to reshape their breasts.

However, the media is reporting that already there are ideas to perform breast enlargements on healthy women in under an hour; as they say, “over a lunch break”.

The procedure called Celution™ takes fat from the stomach, buttocks, or thighs through a standard liposuction procedure and under a local anesthetic. The stem cells are then removed from these so-called ‘super-charged’ fat cells. The stem cells are placed in a cartridge, along with regenerative cells, in order to be injected into the breast of a patient within one hour.

One trial has been performed in Japan on nineteen women, all who already had at least a partial mastectomy. No negative side effects were reported and the patients (reportedly) responded well to the surgery. Additional trials are scheduled in the future. The therapy is expected to be introduced in Europe in 2008 by the California biotechnology company Cytori Therapeutics, who created the superfast breast enlargement technique. The procedure is considered legal in the European Union.

According to the company’s website: Cytori Therapeutics “is developing and seeks to commercialize regenerative cell therapies for cardiovascular disease, reconstructive surgery, and many other serious, chronic, and life threatening conditions and disorders. These therapies, currently under investigation, would involve a physician removing a small amount of a patient's fat, also known as adipose tissue, and running it through Cytori's Celution™ System. The International version of Cytori's Celution™ System quickly separates and concentrates regenerative cells from adipose tissue so they may be quickly administered back to the patient about an hour later.”

According to the company, the procedure will cost a few thousands of U.S. dollars. Also, according to the company, its researchers will initially concentrate on the reconstructive surgery in breast cancer patients. However, there is no doubt that there will be plenty of money to be made in performing the procedure on otherwise healthy women who want larger boobs.

Please note: Scientists involved in the study caution that they do not know how these stem cells function once implanted into the breast of woman patients. They are not certain how long the new breasts will stay enlarged or whether the fat will simply absorb back into the body. It has been earlier found that the altered breasts gradually enlarge over a six-month period after the procedure. They also caution as to the health and safety problems that could arise with such a procedure.

Caution is the key word in any new procedure.
