No “cut”, but perhaps a “refinement” on the horizon for the PlayStation 3 retail price

A recent interview with Sir Howard Stringer, Chairman and CEO of Sony Corp, has the exec telling the Financial Times that the company is working on “refining” how much it could afford to adjust the price of the PlayStation 3.

Stringer acknowledged that the Nintendo Wii had indeed taken a slice of the PlayStation gaming crown – pretty much echoing industry observers around the world;
"Nintendo Wii has been a successful enterprise, and a very good business model, compared with ours . . . because it's cheaper," Stringer said in a video interview "That [price cuts] is what we are studying at the moment. That's what we are trying to refine."

This price refinement may well be towards the end of the year as Sony attempts to reinvigorate a PlayStation 3 market that is seen as failing at the moment; "energy [in PS3 sales] by Christmas, and then you will begin to see break-out games” Stringer said.

Sony has a number of exclusive PS3 titles set to release around the same period, along with the PlayStation 3 virtual world of Home.
