Sony Ericsson has launched two new cellphones, one of them , the K850 Cybershot matching the Nokia N95's photo-taking ability with a 5 megapixel camera.

Like the N95 the K850 also uses Xenon flash, which is superior to the LED flash used on most camera phones.

The K850 is designed to be easy to operate as a camera and as a phone. A new selector lets users switch quickly between camera, video and picture viewing modes and in camera mode illuminated icons indicate which keys act as short-cuts for the digital zoom and other camera functions.

The K850 is a tri-band HSDPA and quad-band EDGE phone that comes in either Velvet Blue or Luminous Green. It will be available in North America beginning in Q4 2007. Australian availability has not been announced.

The K850 is very much geared towards managing multimedia and comes with a  new media browser that "puts all of your stored media, whether photos, video, music or podcasts, in one place offering you a unique Sony Ericsson media experience."

Users can scroll, sort and access all types of media files from a single point in the menu. The K850 also allows users to carry out an intelligent search to see photos by the month they were taken, view thumbnail images or scroll through in full-picture mode.
A new crystal display claims to offer "optimal clarity from any viewing angle."

Also released this week is the Z320, a clamshell format phone with a 1.3 megapixel camera.{moscomment}
