Nokia has demonstrated new heights of hyperbole announcing its latest cellphone, the 8600 Luna.Featured Whitepaper
5 Best Practices for Smartphone Support
The Nokia 8600 Luna, we are told will be "as enchanting to behold as it is a joy to touch" thanks to "the melding of nearly opaque smoked glass with unique, soft-touch stainless steel." Not your taste? Surely not, at least not in Nokia's eyes. "We took painstaking effort to ensure that the experience delivered by every surface - from the smoothness of glass against the face to the warmth of stainless steel in the palm to the superior tactile feedback of the keypad - would surpass any and all expectations," said Heikki Norta, Senior Vice President, Mobile Phones, Nokia. Norta explains that the Luna is named after the Roman goddess of moonlight "often represented...as a mysteriously captivating beauty encircled in a soft, yet radiant light." Aesthetics aside, the Luna does have one interesting innovation: it's the first Nokia cellphone with a single micro-USB port that allows owners to streamline common activities - like charging, audio and data connectivity - into a single connection. It's a slide format quad-band GSM, phone with a two megapixel camera and bluetooth measuring 107 x 45 x 16mm and weighing in at 143gms. If the Luna's lack of 3G puts you off, you can choose between two versions of another new Nokia, the 6500 which comes in 'classic' candy bar format or slide format and which will work on Telstra's Next G network. Both also use the single micro USB connector. The classic has a 2 megapixel camera, the slide a 3.2 megapixel. The classic is a deal thinner at only 9.5 mm than the 16.4mm slide. Neither the 8600 or the 6500 have an inbuilt FM radio. Th 8600 is due for release in June, the 6500s in the next quarter. the 8600 is priced at euro700 ($A1140), the 6500 classic at euro320 ($A520) and the slide at euro370 ($A600), all prices ex-tax.{moscomment} |
