The arrival of PSP firmware version 3.50 means users have access to the remote play feature recently heralded by the PlayStation 3's 1.80 update.

Once installed, the 3.50 system software allows remote access to music, videos and pictures stored on a PS3. All very nice if you're at a mate's house and can freeload on his or her Wi-Fi network, or when you're in a cafe or other location that provide free access. But it's not so attractive if you're faced with paying 20 cents a minute for commercial Wi-Fi access.

How does your PS3 know which PSP to talk to? The two devices must be paired via USB before remote play will work.

Also new in version 3.50 is an RSS channel guide.

PSPs may be updated to the new firmware across a network or by downloading it to a PC and then transferring the updater on a Memory Stick Duo. According to Sony's US web site, updating via a UMD is no longer supported.{moscomment}
