Online banking more popular than iPods? E-mail

A new survey has found that Australian consumers over the age of 16 believe online banking and mobile telephony are by far the two most important technologies that have improved their lives over the past 10 years. The two technologies were ranked well in front of advances in entertainment such as portable music players and pay TV.

The E-Money index, a survey of 1100 consumers conducted for the Commonwealth Bank of Australia ranked mobile voice and SMS messaging as the most important advance in consumer technology, closely followed by online and electronic banking.

When asked to look back over the last ten years to name advances in consumer technology that had made the biggest improvements to their lives – the relative proportion of respondents were:
   
o    66% making calls and sending SMS via mobile phones
o    58% online and electronic banking
o    35% Music technology such as the iPod
o    33% Pay TV an Digital TV
o    29% Evolving mobile phone features such as the Blackberry, phone cameras and 3G content
o    20% Satellite Navigation systems
o    20% computer game technology such as the Xbox
o    17% Social Networking websites such as MySpace and YouTube{moscomment}
