Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster is tipping an updated MacBook Pro will debut at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference next month.

Although Munster's reasoning is apparently based on the length of time since the last major update of Apple's pro notebook, it ties in with expectations that the company is about to introduce MacBooks or MacBook Pros (possibly both) with LED backlit display panels.

There's also been speculation that the recent MacBook speed-bump was a way of making the most of the existing design in advance of a full Centrino Duo (Santa Rosa) based model, and it would be very strange if Apple used a more advanced chipset in the MacBook than that in the MacBook Pro.

Munster also suggests - though less confidently - a redesigned iMac may put in an appearance at the conference in San Francisco. Rumours circulating include an even slimmer case, the possible disappearance of the 17in model (with a compensating price cut to the 20in version) and perhaps even a black iMac, mirroring the way the highest-spec MacBook comes in black rather than white.{moscomment}
