Optus offers all-round net security, at no charge E-mail

Optus is offering its broadband customers a suite of online security services including anti-virus, anti-spyware, firewall, anti-spam and parental control, at no charge for the first 12 months.

Optus has partnered with internet security company F-Secure to offer the service, which users obtain by downloading and installing software on their PC (Macs are not supported).

Earlier this month F-Secure announced that it has been selected by Microsoft as the first data security vendor for Windows Home Server. At the 2007 Windows Hardware Engineering Conference in Los Angeles Microsoft announced that F-Secure software would interoperate with Windows Home Server.

"We've made it simple for customers to download and install the suite, with a maintenance-free easy-to-use installation. This includes automatic virus protection updates so customers will have protection from the latest threats," Michael Smith, group marketing director, Optus Consumer said. All downloads eat into customers' monthly data quotas.

Optus Internet Security Suite will be available to Optus Cable customers from 24 May, 2007, to Optus DSL Direct customers from 5 June 2007, and DSL customers from 15 June 2007. Optus Dial-up customers will not be able to subscribe until late 2007. Details at www.optus.com.au/securitysuite{moscomment}
