80GB PS3 heads to South Korea E-mail

Sony Computer Entertainment Korea has confirmed that the rumoured 80GB PlayStation 3 is coming, well coming to Korea at least.  Yep the new PS3 has more Seoul

After some speculation it would seem that Sony has decided to take advantage of the invasive broadband penetration of South Korean households, targeting download content as a feature to pitch.

To aid this pitch, Sony will provide the upgraded HDD SKU for the region, South Koreans can enjoy an extra 20GB of space on the Sony Entertainment Hub.

The official website now lists the new 80GB version, to be released on June 16th for 518,000 South Korean won (US$557), before tax.

It seems South Korea is getting a fine deal here, with the 80GB machine selling for an even cheaper relative price than our friends in the US are paying for the 60GB offering.

To this point in time Korea has been the only officially announced region to receive the upgraded HDD.  Time will tell if Sony see fit to grace the rest of the world with the extra capacity.

It will be interesting to note if prospective consumers pick up on this speculation and decide to hold off on any PS3 purchases, or perhaps the “care-factor” on a 25% increase in HDD is low enough to matter in the immediate decision to buy.
