Ron Gilbert who was partly to blame for taking many hours of my own life as I urged Guybrush Threepwood across the tri-island area, in search of love, booty and arch-enemy the ghost pirate Le-Chuck, has joined forces with the uber-geeks of Penny Arcade to deliver some adventuring goodness to our gaming platforms. The Canadian based Hothead Games will work with Gilbert to create an episodic downloadable series following the adventures of Penny Arcade creators Gabe (Mike Krahulik) and Tycho (Jerry Holkins). Penny Arcade Adventures: On the Rain-Slick Precipice of Darkness looks to be coming to PC, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 with no current release date scheduled. Still all indications are that the participants are positive about the project; "I have been a fan of Penny Arcade because I have always found their comic so funny and biting. When I first heard they were making a game and that they had chosen to weave adventure game elements into it, I knew immediately I wanted to be involved. Working with the Penny Arcade guys and the team at Hothead has been an absolute riot," said Gilbert. Let us hope that some of the art and yes, the nostalgia of those early SCUMM (the main system used in Monkey Island and other similar point and click adventure games of the 90's) can be brought back to life. As the recent Sam & Max episodic games have proven, rumours of the death of adventure gaming have been greatly exaggerated. {moscomment}
