“We Don’t Care
How Much the Software Industry is losing Due to Piracy!” said Rob
Harmer, General Manager PCProfile, Adelaide Sth Australia.
For years there have been industry surveys (annually since the mid 1990s) that talk about how much the software, music and movie industry is “losing due to piracy”. Featured Whitepaper

PCProfile announced today the release of Snapshot PC Auditor version 5 the latest module in the award-winning suite of PC audit software for determining the extent of exposure that CEOs and managers have in terms of unauthorized software, fonts, music and movie files on PC based systems, that can expose an organization to legal risk in terms of software compliance or just management risk in terms of the sheer numbers of files downloaded by staff at the desktop. Snapshot v5 is a Windows based audit tool that does not require installation or training and will, in around 2 minutes per PC identify the volume of files installed so that you can take a “weather eye” view as a CEO or Manager of what is being installed on your systems. The initial version is FREE for any site to download to make an initial assessment and this will generate around 100 records (software executable files) and identify these items so that a comparison can be made with proof of purchase records for software compliance. Other areas that need to be looked at cover Fonts (that are also subject to license compliance issues, the same as software) plus music and movie files all of which carry risks and exposure from anti-piracy authorities worldwide. The Full version of Snapshot v5 will allow for a complete software inventory of the system and this can be either as a Windows based or a script based version for running over server based systems, to gather the results files “silently” without interruption. The focus of the Snapshot PC Audit tool is on the extent of installation of unauthorized software, fonts, music and movie files to PC based systems and enables CEOs to extract sufficient details to gather a picture of the “state of health” of the PCs under management control.
