Yahoo shutters Photos to develop Flickr E-mail

Yahoo Photos is being shut down later this year, reflecting the company's 2005 purchase of Flickr and the public's shift in interest from static photo sites to the social side of sharing as embodied by younger services.

Users will be given three months to migrate their digital snaps to Flickr or another company's service such as Photobucket or Shutterfly. Yahoo officials say a simple process will be put in place for the transfer.

While Yahoo Photos was once a leading photo site, Photobucket has been gaining market share largely at Yahoo's expense.{moscomment}
