Kordia upgrades NZ IP net to MPLS E-mail

Kordia, a provider of customised broadcast and telecommunications network services in new Zealand, is to upgrade its New Zealand-wide IP network with Alcatel-Lucent IP/MPLS-based and optical networking equipment.


Kordia IP network is carried on its digital microwave and fibre optic networks linking New Zealand's major cities, towns and rural centres and forming the backbone of the country's TV and radio broadcast system. Kordia provides transparent layer-2 Ethernet and layer-3 virtual private networks (VPNs) to broadcasters, service providers and businesses.

"The Alcatel-Lucent solution super-charges our IP network and enables us to expand the converged services we can offer," said Kordia's networks general manager, Derek Nielsen. "Our customers, including broadcasters, have the flexibility to choose the quality of service they require for each application, from 'best-effort' services such as high-speed Internet, to services that demand high-bandwidth and low-latency such as voice and video-over-IP."

Alcatel-Lucent is supplying its 7750 Service Router), 7710 Service Router and 7450 Ethernet Service Switch and its data-aware Optical Multi-Service Node optical networking systems to deliver carrier-class ethernet services.

Kordia comprises AAP Communications Services (Australia) and the THL (Transmission Holdings) Group, which in turn comprises Broadcast Communications Ltd (New Zealand) and THL Australia it was renamed Kordia in November 2006.{moscomment}
