HP Digital Sender speeds scanning and forwarding E-mail

Lots of documents to scan and route? Hewlett-Packard's new Digital Sender 9250c might be the answer.

The device runs at up to 55 images per minute in mono or 33 in colour, and features a full-sized slide-out keyboard instead of the soft keyboard used on the company's MFPs. The operator can scan to email, to OCR (the conversion is performed on the destination PC, not on the 9250c itself) to a printer, or to a network fax server.

The automatic document feeder feeder handles double-sided sheets up to 215.9 x 355.6 mm (8.5 x 14 in), or the top section of the Digital Sender can be raised allowing the device to be used as a conventional flatbed scanner.

Optional software allows integration with applications such as Notes, SharePoint and content management systems, as well as forms processing and barcode reading.

Security features include the use of LDAP, Kerberos or other technologies to authenticate the sender, and the ability to erase data from the device's 40G hard disk as soon as a each document has been transmitted. A USB port allows the connection of a card reader or a biometric device for authentication.

Suited to higher volume scanning than HP's MFPs, the 9250c costs $US3899.
