MacLinkPlus provides Office 2007 conversion for Mac E-mail

Given the demand from Mac owners for a convenient way of reading Microsoft Office 2007 files, DataViz has pushed out a prerelease of MacLinkPlus Deluxe version 16.

MacLinkPlus was once a staple for Mac users who needed to read and write files created by applications they didn't own, especially software running under under DOS or Windows. But as the industry has coalesced around a smaller and more standardised set of formats it ceased to be a 'must have'.

Microsoft's delay in providing Mac-based translation for Office 2007 has provided DataViz with an opportunity to regain some ground among Mac users. Most of its recent efforts have been aimed at format conversion and synchronisation for handheld devices.

Available immediately, the prerelease includes read-only converters for Word 2007 and Excel 2007, and a bidirectional converter for WordPerfect x3 files. Another new feature is the incorporation of the icWord and icExcel file viewers into the main application so users can examine Office documents before converting them.

Purchasers of the $US79.99 pre-release will receive a copy of the shipping version - which will handle a more complete set of Word 2007 and Excel 2007 features - at no extra charge.{moscomment}
