Capcom has confirmed plans to bring the popular Resident Evil 4 game to the Wii, bringing with it a reworking of the control system.

Ahhh zombies, they are all the rage still, whether it be Hollywood or gaming, they are everybody's favourite whipping boys.  Soon Wii owners will have the chance to rid the virtual world of more reanimated dead with Capcom announcing Resident Evil 4 shuffling to Nintendo's latest platform.

Critically acclaimed on GameCube and PS2 in 2005, the game followed the story of a agent trying to rescue the "president's daughter" from a batch of Eastern European zombie farmers (why did they only send one guy? Does the Pres have more than one daughter?).

Game play consisted mostly of wresting the control system to bring various weapons to bear on the mostly slowly shuffling hoard.  This time around we get to bring the Wii-mote to bear as an aiming device which will be that much more enjoyable.

There are also rumoured rumblings from Capcom regarding the Wii getting its own Resident Evil game under the guise of The Umbrella Chronicles.

"Resident Evil has become one of the premier franchises in the games industry, with more than 30 million RE games sold around the world," said Jack Symon, director, product marketing, Capcom Entertainment.  "The innovative controller functionality of the Wii will allow us to design innovative, original game play never before seen in a Resident Evil game. With RE4, we're challenging the Wii hardware to meet Resident Evil, while in The Umbrella Chronicles, we're adapting Resident Evil to the innovations of the Wii."

We await more news on this.

Meanwhile RE4 is destined for release in a few months time.
