Also on board the Soyuz capsule will be Oleg Kotov and Fyodor Yurchikhin, who are scheduled to remain on the space station for at least six months. Simonyi will return with current ISS crewmembers Miguel Lopez-Alegria and Mikhail Tyurin. Sunita Williams - who has been in the news thanks to the wasabi incident and her plans to compete in the Boston Marathon while aboard the ISS - will remain in space until June. Among other projects, Simonyi was one of the key people behind the development of Microsoft Word and Excel. He is not the only Microsoft alumnus with an interest in space tourism - co-founder Paul Allen funded the SpaceShipOne project that won the X-Prize for the first private manned spacecraft to reach space twice within 14 days.{moscomment} |
