The Xbox 360’s new 120Gb hard drive isn’t empty E-mail

The news is that the Xbox 360’s new 120Gb hard drive, whether the standalone model, or that included with the Elite, comes pre-loaded with game trailers, game demos and one full playable game.

Thinking of buying a new 120Gb hard drive for your Xbox 360? The good news from the team at TeamXbox is that it comes pre-loaded with one full game that you might already own – Hexic HD – and a stack of game trailers, game demos, gamer pics and some dashboard themes.

If you buy an Xbox 360 Elite, you’ll find that the 120Gb hard drive comes with even more content, which is detailed below.

Interestingly, if you buy a 120Gb hard drive for your existing Xbox 360, and use the included cable to transfer the data from your old 20Gb hard drive to the new 120Gb model, you’ll find that all the new content gets wiped off, or so it is reported. That’s a shame, although given that most of the free content is basically demos which can be re-downloaded at will, it’s hardly the end of the world.

Also, according to the TeamXbox story, the game demos included with the 120Gb hard drive will differ from region to region, so the following list is only a guide and not a guarantee, although once again demos are freely downloadable so it’s not a big deal.

So, on the standalone 120Gb hard drive for existing Xbox 360 owners, the content is as follows:

Game trailers, which are supposed to be in HD video quality, include Forza 2 customization and damage videos, Halo Wars, Fable 2, the Halo 3 TV Ad, a Halo 3 Trailer, the Halo 3 et tu brute video, a TV spot advertising Xbox 360 accessories, a Wireless World Video and a Holiday ’06 Accessories Video, obviously from last year.

On the games front, there’s one full playable game which is Hexic HD. The rest of the games are playable demos, and these include (depending on the region you’re in): Assault Heroes,  Cloning Clyde, Geometry Wars, Marble Blast Ultra, Small Arms, Feeding Frenzy, Uno, Pac-Man, Street Fighter II, Lumines Live!, Zuma, Heavy Weapon, Lego Star Wars II, Lost Planet (multiplayer Live), Madden '07, Fusion Frenzy 2 and Call of Duty 3, along with dashboard themes and gamer pics.

If you buy the Xbox 360 Elite, you’ll find that your hard drive includes all of the content listed above, but will also includes the same content from the 20Gb ‘Xbox 360 Premium Edition’. These include a range of videos, which are Step into Liquid, Justice League, The Goal 2/3, two Adidas Clips, UFC All Access, Viva Piñata clip and Warren Miller - Extreme Sports.

The playable game demos include Lara Croft Tomb Raider LEGEND, Kameo: Elements of Power (2nd Demo) and Burnout Revenge.

So, given that users in the US will probably want to fill their hard drives with Xbox Live Video downloads of TV shows and movies, the chances are that the content will find itself wiped pretty quickly and replaced, but at least the new hard drive does come with some content, instead of being empty, and more importantly gives Xbox 360 owners something they’ve wanted for some time now: a bigger hard drive!
