The IBM digital video surveillance system has already been implemented at Pathmark and Kohl's stores in the US. "Advances in video surveillance technology have the potential to drastically reduce in-store theft and optimize the store environment to improve sales," said Pedro Ramos, assistant vice president of loss prevention, Pathmark Stores. "We are looking at the beginning of a major advance for the retail industry." IBM claims the Smart Surveillance Solution can provide "situational awareness" of a monitored space through the use of technologies such as face capture and licence plate recognition.{moscomment} |
