No Microsoft security updates this Patch Tuesday E-mail

Microsoft has announced it will release no security updates on March 13, even though there are several known vulnerabilities waiting to be fixed.

According to eEye Research's Zero Day Tracker, Microsoft has five outstanding vulnerabilities, though none of them are regarded as being critical. Three are in Windows itself, one in PowerPoint 2003 and one in Word 2000/XP.

The absence of a fix for the Word issue is of particular concern, as Microsoft has warned that it is being exploited by targeted attacks.

Microsoft will release a total of six non-security high-priority updates on March 13, including two for Windows. An updated Microsoft Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool will also be released.

The company routinely releases updates on the second Tuesday of the month, hence the term 'Patch Tuesday.' It has been 18 months since there were no security updates on Patch Tuesday.{moscomment}
