iTunes update heralds Apple TV E-mail

iTunes 7.1, the latest incarnation of Apple's media player, provides support for the Apple TV set-top box (which is due to ship this month) along with a full-screen implementation of Cover Flow.

Cover Flow is Apple's name for the feature that allows users to 'flip' through cover art to select an album like they were riffling through a stack of CDs.

Available for Mac OS X and Windows, iTunes 7.1 also provides additional options for sorting the media collection.

Despite the improvements, it appears that iTunes 7.1 still only provides partial compatibility with Windows Vista.

The requirements are still XP with SP2 or 2000 with SP4, but an Apple knowledge base article states "iTunes 7.1 is recommended for use with most editions of Windows Vista, however, Apple is actively working with Microsoft to resolve a few remaining known issues."

We suggest Vista users read that article before installing the new version as there are some wrinkles that they should be aware of, and Apple also provides a procedure that will "improve your experience when syncing your iPod or playing iTunes Store purchases once upgraded to Windows Vista."

It sounds as if the next iTunes release may deliver full Vista compatibility.{moscomment}
