ASX listed technology company pieNETWORKS (ASX:PIE) has signed a contract with Telecom New Zealand to trial its Webphone product.

The Webphone is a payphone terminal that utilises VoIP and provides users with additional functionality such as:

- Broadband Internet access
- Email services
- Wifi hot spot capabilities.

The trial with Telecom NZ will see 6 Webphones deployed in high profile Telecom payphone locations and will replace existing payphones for a period of 9 months.

The information gathered through the trial will test how customers respond to the new services and functionality offered by the Webphones. Telecom NZ will then decide if it will roll out the Webphones across New Zealand.

Telecom NZ operates approximately 4,300 payphones in New Zealand.{moscomment}
