The problem with online music stores in Australia has been that they force a tradeoff between full coverage of the major labels, or DRM schemes that prevent buyers listening to their purchases on whatever device they choose. Telstra's BigPond Music store has reached a deal with the big four labels allowing it to offer unprotected MP3s.

FCC orders Comcast to stop arbitrarily blocking Internet traffic

In a move that will be welcomed by net neutrality advocates, the US Federal Communications Commission has slammed Comcast for selectively blocking its customers' peer-to-peer traffic. The FCC has also ordered Comcast to take a number of measures to rectify the situation.

Security Update 2008-005 for Mac OS X 10.4.11 and 10.5.4 includes a newer version of BIND to overcome the DNS poisoning flaw. But questions are being asked about whether the update really does protect against this issue.

 
Apple catches up with BIND as one of a dozen security patches

Late last week Apple finally released a security update for Mac OS X that includes a patched version of the BIND DNS software. In all, there were a dozen patches released including the potentially serious BIND fix.

Apple has announced that it will open its second Sydney store in Chatswood on August 9 but to date there is still no word on when Melbourne and the other major capitals will get a store.

 
iTunes 7.7.1 arrives from Apple

Apple has updated iTunes to version 7.7.1. The release comes hot on the heels of iTunes 7.7, which appeared alongside the iPhone 3G earlier this month.
