Japanese public TV broadcaster NHK says Toshiba to declare HD DVD dead

Japanese news website Akihabara News is reporting that Japanese TV network NHK has run a report saying HD DVD is ‘officially’ dead, although Toshiba are still yet to make their own official announcement.

MacNN and Electronista have noted that at least one major North American retail chain has run out of stocks of the 15-inch MacBook Pro, something that either means they’ve been very popular lately, there’s some delay in production that is causing lower stock levels  – or stocks are running down in preparation for a potential MacBook refresh.

Indeed, Microsoft is still set to pump out security updates for some time to come, especially given the fact there are plenty of older Macs out there which run Office 2004 far better than they’ll ever run the Intel-optimised Office 2008.

The ASUS Eee PC comes pre-loaded with Xandros Linux, an operating system far less susceptible to viruses, spyware, malware and the other nasties that are almost of biblical proportions in the Windows world. So, even though ASUS makes a Windows XP driver disc to allow the easy installation of XP, and is due to start selling the Eee with XP pre-loaded, is XP worth the worry?

Ever since Warner ditched HD DVD, forcing Toshiba to massively drop prices on their HD DVD players, it was only a matter of time before Microsoft’s HD DVD add-on drive for the Xbox 360 would also have to dramatically fall in price. Finally... it has happened.
