Bill
Gates stops his “day to day” work at Microsoft on Friday June 27, to
focus on the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation and its work in health,
vaccines, education and more. But he remains Microsoft’s Chairman – and
its largest single shareholder – so he won’t be too far away if Steve
Ballmer wants to have a chat!

While there’s no local launch date for the Eee PC desktop edition as
yet, those lucky blighters in the UK are getting the first non-notebook

reaction to the Apple store opening extravaganza has been curious to
see. But for anyone that has ever been into and shopped at an official

After having its attempt to force sellers and buyers to use PayPal
exclusively quashed by the Australian Competition and Consumer
Commission, eBay Australia is warning sellers not to include
alternative payments systems in their ads. Since the ACCC issued its
draft notice on June 13, eBay has been effectively in denial, acting as
if come July 15 its new PayPal only policy will come into effect.

We’re a long, long way from $50 Blu-ray drive prices and less than $1
per blank Blu-ray disc as we are in the world of CDs and DVDs, but an
important step towards those price points being a reality has occurred
as prices have fallen. Still, aren’t hard drives way cheaper to buy
than Blu-ray drives and discs?!

The announcement of a 160GB 1.8-inch hard drive isn’t new – the iPod
Classic 160GB has one. But what is new is a faster 5400RPM speed that
makes the drive much more suitable for notebooks and ‘mobile Internet
devices’, and it’s coming in August at a price likely to be much
cheaper than SSD.

Given the fact Australians, Asians and Europeans have had 3G for years,
the lack of a second front-facing video camera on the iPhone 3G is
weird. What’s weirder still is one of America’s top technology
journalists making one of the oddest comments I’ve ever heard.

Disaster protection and recovery takes on a whole new meaning with an internal hard drive that can survive full immersion in water and a raging fire, events that could severely damage normal hard drives and subject them to very expensive data recovery procedures - something that is included as standard with ioSafe drives if it's still needed. So how much do these drives cost?!

Despite the doubt some of my journalistic colleagues expressed over the
chance that Apple might decide to preview the next version of OS X,
