Why would you need an external webcam for Macs when they all come with
a built-in webcam? Because of better picture quality, a better lens,
better autofocus and VGA quality chat sessions that are four times
sharper than the standard experience – or so Logitech is promising!

Cuil, pronounced “cool”, is a brand new search engine claiming an index
of more than 120 billion pages, and founded by former Google employees
that were search engine stars to begin with. How cool is Cuil, and will

Vodafone is proactively slicing the price of international mobile
roaming charges, which consumer or business travellers overseas on the
Vodafone network will surely love, with a special deal for China during
August and the Olympics. It looks very impressive and I can’t seem to
find any hidden catches, despite trying!!

One of the big criticisms of Nintendo’s E3 announcement of the Wii
MotionPlus add-on for more accurate motion control is that it kept the
announcement to itself, leaving developers to learn about it through E3
– but it turns out that’s not quite the truth. An added storage option for
the Wii is also being worked on!

An Austrian government official has noted is it “no problem for them to
listen in on Skype conversations” according to a news report. Does this
mean Skype’s telephony services can be bugged by government officials,
despite Skype’s apparent denials this is possible or is occurring?

The cost of mobile data in Australia is all over the place – some
carriers sell it cheap, others sell it at sky high prices, and
effectively the same data transfers but on different devices from the
same companies can be charged at different rates. When will data
pricing ever get realistic?

In a previous article I looked at the new Optus ‘yes’ Timeless plans,
looked at the then “Optus Mobile Fair Go Policy” and deduced there were
timed limits, but Optus has now belatedly updated its Policy and says

A Google acquisition of Digg for at least US $200m is being rumoured,

Whether you’re using a shiny new iPhone 3G or other smartphone, the
ACCC has put out a warning to users not to be misled over the
“significant cost” of excess data usage charges. It’s a timely warning,
but you can be certain that horror stories of massive data charge bills
will inevitably surface anyway!

When is an unlimited plan NOT an unlimited plan? When it’s timed, has
limits and exclusions which are listed in the fine print for you to
discover, probably when it’s time to pay the bill. Should the use of
the words ‘unlimited’ and ‘timeless’ be banned when it comes to
telecommunications companies? NOTE: NEW STORY UPDATE FOLLOWS

With any Australian fibre-based broadband network still up to 5 years
away, the date of completion just got extended by at least 6 months as
the Australian Federal Government extends the time for “robust
proposals” to be submitted for consideration. As usual, the Federal
Opposition is outraged!

For all the talk of new wireless motion controllers from Sony and
Microsoft, the company that brought out a new motion controller was...
Nintendo! That aside, it looks like there were plenty of new games
launched, new online content, upgrades and a push towards more
co-operative gameplay.
