When AMD and ATI launched the new Radeon range, nVidia and integrated Intel graphics were simply blown away and relegated to the last generation. Earlier last month, ATI launched the the HD 4670 and 4650 cards, now come two more at “value prices” while still delivering top performance.

Windows speaks your instant messaging dialect, too
Wednesday, 01 October 2008
Windows, whether XP or Vista, is home to all the major instant messenger (IM) clients, and for things like Skype, unquestionably has the best versions. But if you’re hankering to talk to multiple friends on multiple IM systems at the same time, and you want some open source goodness without having to go through the pain of learning Linux, try Pidgin for Windows instead – the open source program that lets you talk freely.

Channel Nine says it is recognising “loyal McLeod’s Daughters enthusiasts” by making the final series available free for download via NineMSN. Is Channel Nine finally giving a damn about its viewers?

Money-to-burn Gen Y’s waste it on “Caller Tones”
Tuesday, 30 September 2008
With the global economic crises reaching fever pitch, will Gen Y’s desire to frivolously waste money on things like “Caller Tones” give way to the post “Great Depression” learnings of savings and thrift? Or will the need to look, and in this case, sound cool, trump economic reality, with Gen Y’s often still living at home and couched from stock market shenanigans?

Crazy Norwegians want to make iTunes “open”
Tuesday, 30 September 2008
What a load of crock – Norway wants Apple to make iTunes compatible with any music player, and while they say there’s been “no progress since February”, clearly those pesky Norwegian consumer authorities don’t know the truth, and have nothing better to do! What’s the story?

Tuesday, 30 September 2008
Western Digital has broken through the half-terabyte barrier for notebook computers in the standard 9.5mm 2.5-inch hard disk format, using only two platters instead of three. Is space truly still the final frontier?

Monday, 29 September 2008
The 16GB barrier has been broken for the microSDHC and M2 (Memory Stick Micro) formats with SanDisk set to launch 16GB models in October. It gives added weight to its “Wake up your phone” campaign, forces phone manufacturers to work on firmware updates that are 16GB compatible and further shames Apple into rethinking its policy of omitting memory card expansion for its mobile devices.

Windows 7 jettisons features, you can download them instead
Tuesday, 23 September 2008
Looks like Microsoft is going to do its best to “simplify” Windows 7 in many ways we don’t even know about yet, but what we do know is that there’ll be no email client, no photo gallery and no built-in movie maker: you’ll need to download them, instead.

Tuesday, 23 September 2008
The digital mapping battle in Australia isn’t just being fought between the Telstra Sensis WhereIs service and Navteq, but also the gargantuan Google, whose Google Maps service received a massive traffic boost in August after the controversial Street View service was launched down under.

Toshiba's NB100 Netbook - yet another brandname cheapie!
Saturday, 20 September 2008
Toshiba has announced that it too is joining the “Netbook” race, but given that the Intel Atom is a chip designed for exactly this type of low-spec computer, what’s more of a surprise is that it has taken Toshiba this long to join in the fun!

Xbox Pure was actually contaminated
Saturday, 20 September 2008
Xbox Pure was meant to be the name of an upcoming Xbox 360, perhaps a slimline version or a new 360 successor, but has turned out to be a fake blog posting to see which games sites would run with it. With so many rumours online, was this a fair test of a gamer site’s fact-checking skills?

Does Exit Reality suck?
Friday, 19 September 2008
Exit Reality – it’s the new plugin that’s going to transform every single website into a 3D virtual world, and unleash the power of 3D to everyone. So, why am I stuck in the reality of herky-jerky 3D motion, which is giving me a really bad first impression?!

With Windows 7 built upon the strong foundation of Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008, the rumours that Windows 7 could come months earlier than expected sound like good news to me, with the upcoming PDC promising a new beta!

Virgin’s new pre-paid broadband makes Optus’ look lame
Tuesday, 16 September 2008
It’s funny – Optus owns Virgin, but “lets” Virgin totally outclass it with a pre-paid broadband plan that quite frankly isn’t stupid. What is it, good cop and bad cop? Whatever it is... Virgin’s pre-paid broadband is the best one yet.
