Although Nokia seems to let phone retailers sell its phones sometimes weeks before any company launch, the long-awaited N97 has finally launched on an official basis, along with the official Australian unveiling of the Ovi “app” store, now with a claimed 20,000 apps!

The launch of Sony’s new Z5500 series 52 inch LCD TV and its “2nd-generation 200Hz” technology is competing with LG’s new 200Hz models, while Samsung and Panasonic are upping the plasma ante with “600Hz”screens they naturally say deliver better picture quality than 200Hz LCDs – but your eyes will have to be the judge!

Yes, the iPhone 3G S has just launched, but Palm’s own webOS revolution is doing well with a quick update, delivered over-the-air, to immediately improve stability for some apps, a dozen new apps arriving post launch, an SDK is on the way and at least 50,000 sold at launch. Not bad, for Palm… but is it enough?

The rumour mongers had many things right in their educated guesses for what any new iPhone 3G successor might bring to the table, but while they had plenty of things wrong, too, the iPhone 3G S is still a worthy upgrade to the world’s best smart phone. Apple also introduced OS X 10.6, with a US $29 upgrade plan, and cheaper MacBooks, including the re-emergence of the Firewire 800 port on the 13-inch model.

 
iPhone unlockers – don’t upgrade to 3.0 yet! E-mail

We’re yet to see whether iPhone OS 3.0 launches for download in a few hours time, along with a new iPhone itself, or if both will be delayed, but the iPhone Dev Team has warned against rogue downloads promising yellowsnow updates, fake 3.0 unlocks and even upgrading to iTunes 8.2 itself.
