Although there’s no official notification on YouTube’s blog as yet, the
option to watch videos in much higher quality “HD” mode has now
launched, replacing the previous option to watch in “high quality”,
with the “watch in normal quality” option still available for those on
slower networks or lower download limits.

It has been claimed that an attendee at the Chinese WinHEC conference
has managed to leak a Virtual Hard Disk (VHD) image of the previously
unreleased Windows 7 6956 build to torrent sites on the Internet. Some
have claimed success in downloading the file and running as a VHD,
others claim no success and say that “Chinese hackers” are trying to
convert the VHD into an installable ISO instead.

After initially saying that the Australian Federal Opposition
“sabotaged” the definite rollout date for digital TV in Australia,
Federal Communications Minister Senator Conroy now says the Opposition
has instead “backed down” and has decided to help deliver a clear
signal on when analog will be no more, and digital will rule the day –
the 31st of December, 2013.

The beta versions of Vista SP2 and Window Server 2008 SP2 have now
landed for MSDN and TechNet users, and should be available for the
“general public” to also try tomorrow, while a Microsoft executive
tells CNET US that Windows 7 is not just a Windows Vista service pack.

Despite rumours that the first official Windows 7 beta would arrive in
December, even though Microsoft has always officially targeted January
2009, the latest evidence seems to point to January 13 being the day
the beta goes live.

One of Twitter’s main competitors, Pownce, started off with a lot of
hype but inexorably lost out to Twitter’s charms. Now, it’s new owner
Six Apart, will shut the service down, promising “great things” in the
future and inviting Pownce users to try Six Apart’s Vox service
