The Australian Game Developers Association will head over to GDC 08 (Game developers Conference) in San Francisco later this month in a bid to woo business partnerships with the benefits of Aussie game development.

One million Nintendo DS units sold in a country of around 22 million people, the figures are impressive for Nintendo, at it is hard to imagine the bubble bursting any time soon.  Sony with their sophisticated PlayStation Portable (PSP) have made in-roads, perhaps, despite the overwhelming odds against it, there is room for other players in the hand-held gaming arena.  Could Microsoft be that player?

It all started with Lara Croft in Tomb Raider, now the worlds children are being corrupted by Mass Effect according to Fox News in the U.S.  This of course has raised the ire of new Bioware (developers of Mass Effect) owner Electronic Arts.  Ding! The battle of the media giants has begun.

Concerns have emerged this past week during a summit at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.  They centre around the continued use of electronic games and toys by an increasingly younger population. Could hardwiring of the brain by such devices be leading to shortened attention spans with no education benefit bonus?

2007 has been one to place a gold star next to in our gaming diary.  A new generation of consoles has arrived, the PC platform has continued to push the technological platform and hand-held gaming devices are more popular than ever.  On the software front we were blessed with many new IP’s, and the Wii and party games widened the gaming demographic more than ever.

A new franchise is born, with a unique setting and polished presentation.  Join Altair, the master assassin as he ventures through the violent age of the Third Crusade.  Ubisoft have delivered Assassin’s Creed to the gaming masses, it is an important release for gaming culture, in many ways though it fails to deliver promised goods.
