EVA 8 spacewalk of space station astronauts scheduled for February 8th E-mail

The third of a series of three spacewalks (EVA-6, -7, and -8) conducted by the International Space Station (ISS) Expedition 14 astronauts is scheduled to begin on Thursday, February 8, 2007. ISS commander Michael López-Alegría and ISS flight engineer Sunita Williams will go outside of the station to work on further construction activities.

According to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, one young male Whooping crane was found alive after deadly violent storms raced across central Florida on Friday, February 2, 2007. Initially, all 18 endangered birds were feared killed in Citrus Country, Florida, where they had been transferred through a Whooping crane project to reestablish a migratory route for the birds.

On Saturday, February 3, 2007, the Chinese launched one of its Beidou navigation satellites onboard a Long March 3A rocket. Translated as ‘Compass’, the Beidou satellite is one of 35 orbiting satellites that China hopes to be as comprehensive as the Global Positioning System (GPS) built by the United States/NASA and the Galileo Positioning System (Galileo) built by the European Union/ESA.
