When most of us think about software piracy, we imagine some guy down the street or in China with a pirated copy of Windows or Office running on his cheap PC. However, that scenario bears no resemblance to the case of 27 year old Californian Nathan Peterson, who has been sentenced to seven years in prison for selling counterfeit software.

Apple's media event titled Showtime is fast approaching and the whole industry is abuzz with rumours, speculation and supposedly inside information. However, nobody outside of the inner circle really knows whether come September 12, we'll get a movie downloads service, a new iPod video device, an Apple TV set-top box, a new portable combo device that can connect to your TV and stereo system or some subset combination of all of these things.

Analysts are punishing Sony over its recent PS3 release delay announcement, with a number indicating that they believe the delay is just a bit too much for the market to bear. Unfortunately for Sony, they're probably right.

Having once worked for Hewlett-Packard briefly in my career, it is indeed surprising to hear what is going on within the company’s boardroom and also a little disconcerting.

When a company like Microsoft announces a release candidate of a software package like Windows, one imagines that the product is exactly is what the company says it is - a version of the product good enough to be considered a candidate for release. Apparently this is not the case with Vista Release Candidate 1 because it's nowhere near good enough to be released.

It has not been a great year for Sony. PlayStation 3 delays and Blu-ray production problems are bad enough. However, exploding notebook batteries and massive product recalls by major manufacturers such as Dell and Apple take the cake.

It never ceases to amaze me how brilliant companies such as Amazon and Apple can excel in some areas and get it so wrong in others. This movie downloads thing is just one big yawn.

There are no doubt many gamers all over the world gritting their teeth in frustration at the prospect of being forced to wait yet another six months or more before they can take home their long promised Sony PlayStation 3 console. However, the damage to Sony by this further delay goes way beyond its prospects in the games space.

I just finished watching a 10 minute video clip on YouTube of an impressionist doing some pretty good impressions of some well known celebrities and some average ones. His Steve Irwin "Croc Hunter" was fairly poor but his Jack Nicholson and South Park stuff was great.

Much of the press has made much of the fact that there are five Windows Vista editions to choose from compared to XP, which had just two - Home and Professional. My initial reaction to having so much choice about an operating system was one of recoil.

MySpace is a great social networking site for young people. It is also a great place for up and coming music bands who haven't yet been discovered by music labels to market their talents and sell their music to their growing throng of followers. However, talk that MySpace is actually a threat to Apple's iTunes is in the same league as my mother was an alien from outer space.
