The contrast in marketing styles between Apple and Microsoft is interesting. Apple gives away nothing concerning its future products; Microsoft leaks everything. Where iPod is concerned, we know Microsoft's intentions. The question is how will Apple respond?

According to a newly released report, the incidence of spam mail has once again careened out of control, jumping 6.9% in June to a massive 64.8% of all emails sent in June.

According to a new poll, users appear to be divided on whether Microsoft is justified in dropping support for Windows 98 which, together with Windows ME, is still used by more than 70 million users around the world.

 
Another critical Patch Tuesday in July E-mail

On Tuesday July 11, Microsoft intends to release another seven security updates for its Windows and Office products. Four vulnerabilities have been identified for Windows, of which at least one has been given the maximum rating of critical. Three vulnerabilities have been identified for Office, of which again at least one has been classified as critical.

 
OSIA says adopt OpenDocument format like Microsoft E-mail

Open Source Industry Australia Limited (OSIA), an Australian open source industry body, has welcomed Microsoft's acceptance of the new open office file format, ODF (open document format). ODF will now be interoperable with the most widely implemented office suite in the country. However, OSIA cautions 'buyer beware'.

"Google this" now correct English E-mail

Google is now an official verb of the English language - well at least the American English language, according to the Merriam-Webster Collegiate Dictionary. Whether the Oxford English Dictionary follows suit remains to be seen, however there is no reason why it shouldn't given the widespread usage of the term in relation to web searching using Google.

 
Microsoft deals hopeful hand in iPod game E-mail

Microsoft, once the quintessential software company, is following Apple's formula with plans to release an iPod challenger timed to hit retail shelves by the end of year holiday season. The question is, can Microsoft even hope to play in the same league with a campaigner who has lived and breathed the consumer space for decades.
 
Vista not for home users: security expert E-mail

A security expert believes that home computer users should give Windows Vista a wide berth if they're concerned about malware and other security issues. Microsoft has marketed Vista as the long awaited watertight version of Windows that will address the security concerns of past Windows releases, which now require a multi-tiered armoury of security tools to keep hackers at bay.

A 17 inch iMac for $899, beat that students E-mail

Apple has released a new US$899 17-inch iMac designed to capture the education market. The new model features a 1.83 GHz Intel Core Duo processor, a built-in iSight video camera and the iLife '06, suite of digital lifestyle applications. The new iMac is available immediately and will replace the eMac, Apple's last CRT based computer.
