AIIA & Govt work to build ICT billionaires PDF E-mail

ICT business professionals with the potential and determination to grow their business from one million dollars to one billion graduated at the Macquarie Graduate School of Management on Saturday. At least that's what the AIIA  believes after they completed the industry association's year long ‘Developing Business Skills for ICT Entrepreneurs’ program.

If one is to believe the latest figures purveyed by online traffic watcher Hitwise, Google continues to reign supreme in the search engine market and appears to be increasing its lead. However, the search engine leader has a long way to go before it can seriously challenge the dominance of Yahoo or even Microsoft in the email and online content stakes.

Microsoft and chipmaker AMD have announced an agreement to jointly support a pay as you go business model for PC usage in emerging markets similar to prepaid mobile phone plans. The agreement, which uses a business model called FlexGo, follows similar partnerships between Microsoft and Intel, Infineon, Lenovo, Phoenix and Transmeta.

China'S largest PC maker Lenovo has run into a huge political brick wall in the US, with the US Government raising questions about the security of using PCs from the Chinese company in classified areas. Lenovo, although publicly traded, is controlled by a company called Legend which in turn is controlled by the Chinese Government.

ICM Registry, the US-based internet company that for six years had planned to register a .xxx domain for "adult" content has filed a Freedom of Information demand against the US Department of Commerce. ICM claims the US Government agency exerted political influence to have the creation of the domain quashed.

flu_figWorries about Microsoft Word attachments in emails have surfaced with the news that hackers have begun to exploit a zero-day vulnerability in Word 2003 using a new Trojan horse virus. The seriousness is compounded by the fact that a fix from Microsoft could be more than three weeks away.

Some analysts are shouting the sky is falling on Intel because leading PC maker Dell has for the first time decided to diversify its processor supplier base from one to two suppliers. Dell is going to give a small portion of its servers business to AMD, the market gets nervous, slashes a couple of percent off Intel stock, and analysts are shouting that there's still another 10% of slashing to come.

Tcournewshe lawsuit to end all lawsuits against Microsoft has erupted with leading security and storage management software company Symantec attempting to put a halt on further development of Windows Vista. Symantec alleges that parts of Vista were developed using misappropriated data storage technologies developed by storage management company Veritas, which Symantec bought in 2005.

If I was an Intel or AMD boss, I would be most upset with Microsoft right now. Here is the dominant software company that will have taken more than five years to release its next generation operating system and it won't even force users to upgrade their hardware, except perhaps for some more RAM and a graphics processor.

Smart Internet Technology Cooperative Research Centre (CRC), a joint venture between Australian universities and the NSW Government, has tested what it claims is the latest in online gaming audio technology. Called Immersive Communications Environment (ICE), the technology is an audio service that offers the ability for groups of people to communicate online naturally.

macbookWhatever else you may think of Apple, it is a company that makes top quality hardware. Now along comes MacBook, an Intel notebook made by Apple, capable of running Windows in dual boot mode, packed with power, with all these plug and play features built-in, and very reasonably priced. I'm in the market for a notebook so what am I going to do?
