Early last month Symantec announced their intention to acquire global anti-spam, anti-virus mail-filtering company MessageLabs. The due diligence and legalities have finalised with Symantec today announcing the acquisition has completed. With this comes the news of a new Symantec Software as a Service (SaaS) arm.

The latest research about worldwide PC shipments from IDC was pretty
much in agreement with that of an earlier report by rival Gartner - growth was fairly
robust. However, the turmoil in financial markets in the US and
elsewhere has put the brakes on, holding the figures back to below
expectations.
