P2P based massive multiplayer engine to slash hosting costs E-mail

NICTA have announced the release of a new network engine dubbed Badumna.  Using peer to peer (P2P) based technology, Badumna hopes to slash hosting costs for massive multiplayer online (MMO) development of 3D virtual worlds.

 
Microsoft: programming contest defaced, not hacked E-mail

Yesterday I reported on a Microsoft Australia programming contest to find star developers which had many more submissions from "Ov3rLord" and Turkish self-labelled hackers than genuine entrants. Microsoft phoned in their side of the story. Yet even if the site was not hacked (and suffered merely the lesser charge of prank defacement) it still suffered problems.

Microsoft followed their annual major Tech-Ed event in Australia with a week-long programming contest called "DevSta," to find "star developers." While the quantity and quality of submissions suggest a poor turnout it certainly caught the attention of at least two hackers who left their mark.
