Australia's largest supplier of ICT contractors for the Federal Government sector claims that contractor numbers have been decimated as a result of a recent review of staffing needs. ICT contract recruitment specialist Peoplebank described the “most significant reductions in ICT labour hire in over seven years” as a result of the Gershon Review which came into force in late 2008.

 
Demand for ICT professionals on the rise, bottom is in E-mail

The bottom in ICT employment has been reached and demand for skilled jobs is once again on the rise, according to the latest market survey from a major technology recruiter. The news adds to a growing list of evidence of a return to health of the ICT jobs scene.

 
NBN likely to provide over 55,000 ICT jobs E-mail

A new survey of salaries for ICT professionals shows that there has been a significant slowdown in pay increases over the past year as would be expected in the current economic climate. However, if you're lucky enough to have been working in a government ICT job, pay conditions have never been better, and the NBN is going to up the ante to the tune of more than 55.000 jobs, according to ICT professional body the Australian Computer Society.

The technology permanent jobs sector continued its decline in May, but a rally in contracting positions indicates there are signs that the worst is over, the decline is slowing, and that IT&T jobs on offer are on the rise, according to a new report.

Anyone hoping for a quick turnaround in the ICT jobs sector looks set to be disappointed with a new report showing that nervous businesses and ever more cautious government agencies are putting projects and staff hirings on hold. What's more, if the report is to be believed, things don't look like getting better until mid-2010.

The Australian IT&T jobs scene continues to be in a nose dive with new figures showing that there are now less than half the jobs on offer than there were one year ago. As bad as it looks for IT&T jobs, however, in April the sector did not fare as badly as some other professional sectors.

 
IT&T jobs continue death spiral in November E-mail

The IT&T jobs market continued its free fall across Australia in November, with the two largest eastern states, NSW and Victoria suffering large reductions in the number of jobs on offer, according to a new report. The November figures add to what has been a dismal 2008 for IT&T on the employment front with an end to the decline still nowhere in sight.

A new national IT skills index developed by Clarius, the parent of ICT recruiter Candle, in conjunction with KPMG Econtech shows demand for skilled IT people outstripping supply by 9000 in the September quarter. However, ICT ranked only seventh of the skills surveyed. The most severe shortfall is for chefs.
