U.S. researchers at the Salk Institute for Biological Studies (La Jolla, California) have found a gene—specifically, pha-4—which helps to regulate the process by which drastically low-calorie diets can extend life spans.

Researchers at the Harvard Medical School are looking into implanting electrodes within the brain to restore eyesight. Forget about having “Bette Davis eyes” (sung by Kim Carnes), you could have “Steve Austin eyes” (played by “The Six Million Dollar Man” Lee Majors).

Obesity is widely spreading across the United States and it’s a big problem. Congresspersons wanted to do something positive about helping kids eat better in school. So, they asked food and nutrition scientists at the Institute of Medicine for their expert opinions.
