According to a new U.S. study, the lack of vitamin D in men increases the risk of having a heart attack and the development of heart disease. Although the study was performed only on men, the scientists apply the results to women, too.

Omega-3 doubly good for female brain power, but omega-6 makes girls dimmer E-mail

Omega-3 fatty acids, found in fish oil, are twice as effective in improving test scores for girls as boys, U.S. researchers have found. While this appears to confirm the theory that fish is brain food, the researchers also found that omega-6, found primarily in rapeseed, sunflower, palm, and soy oils, diminishes the power of the brain.

 
CDC finds almost 24 million diabetics in U.S. E-mail

A 2007 report by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) shows that 23.6 million people in the United States have diabetes, which is three million more people than in 2005.
