Security warnings about the impending Conficker worm attacks on computers around the globe have been with us for a while now, and as iTWire reported just a few days ago, while the predicted apocalypse didn’t engulf the world after all, the worm’s still out there.  But, be warned, we’re now in the midst of a new security threat of large-scale proportions, according to Kapersky!

There was a three-fold increase in the number of malicious websites around the world infected with malware in March, with almost 3,000 potentially harmful sites intercepted every day of the month.

The dreaded Conficker worm is constantly in the news these days, with consumers and businesses worldwide now bracing themselves for another expected attack from the malicious worm predicted to sweep the Internet on April Fool’s Day tomorrow.

With April Fool’s Day looming, Trend Micro is offering free protection against a new variant of the malicious Conficker worm that infected an estimated 15 million computers last year and is expected to be launched by “cyberfools” on 1 April.

This Thursday 26 March, marks the 10 year anniversary of the notorious Melissa virus, the very first notable email-aware virus, allegedly named after a lap dancer who the virus creator, David L Smith, supposedly met in Florida.

BitDefender is offering a free tool for consumers that will disinfect all versions of Downadup – or  the Conficker worm as it’s commonly known – which the security firm says has swept across the globe infecting 15 million computers worldwide.

Symantec has uncovered a new variant of the Downadup threat (a.k.a. Conficker) which it warns is being pushed out to systems that are already infected with Downadup.
