Dell officially announced a new laptop, the Adamo XPS, which the company says is the world's thinnest. It's supposed to be available for the holiday shopping season.

In the past, I have been less than flattering over Microsoft’s OpenXML document format. Make no mistake, an open file format is definitely a must-have but is OpenXML the right one? Nevertheless, OpenXML exists so let’s be pragmatic about it: OpenXML can bridge the gap between Windows and Linux. In fact, it can open up whole new opportunities for Linux coders to produce documents in a Microsoft-friendly format.

Microsoft OOXML standards setback only temporary

Those in the open source/open documents community now jumping with joy at the failure of Microsoft yesterday to win approval for Open OfficeXML from the International Standards Organization as a global standard should probably take a breather and reflect upon the fact that Microsoft is almost over the line already. In fact, come February next year, OOXML will almost certainly join ODF as an ISO standard.
