Sybase appoints new APAC GM

Database and infrastructure software vendor Sybase has appointed Barrie Sheers as senior vice president and general manager of the Asia Pacific region, reporting to Steve Capelli, president of Worldwide Field Operations of Sybase, Inc.  Based in Hong Kong, Mr Sheers has more than 20 years experience with globally recognised enterprise technology companies and will lead a network of 20 offices in 10 countries with more than 850 employees.  He will manage sales and marketing, professional services, customer service and support and Sybase solution centers in Asia. Prior to joining Sybase, Mr Sheers was vice president of EMC Asia Pacific and Japan. Mr Sheers has also held management positions at various leading IT outsourcing service companies in the United Kingdom and Europe.



SAP makes key sales appointment

SAP Australia and New Zealand has appointed Rodney Moynihan joins the company as territory sales manager with operational responsibility for Victoria, Western Australian, South Australia and Tasmania. Moynihan joins SAP from Microsoft Australia, where he was the Southern Region ERP Manager for Microsoft Dynamics. He has also held previous roles as Business Development Manager and Sales Management with Technology One and held a Business Development Management role at Professional Advantage. Rod has 11 years experience with ERP, both in Sales and Pre-Sales leadership.



BEA appoints new ANZ managing director

Infrastructure software vendor BEA Systems has appointed Dr Ali Al-Tarafi as managing director of BEA Australia and New Zealand.  Dr Al-Tarafi has over 27 years experience working in the IT industry. His last role was director of HP Software South Pacific. He holds BSc Electronic Engineering, first class honours, London University and Ph.D, Telecommunications and Control, London University.



O4 Corporation appoints APAC sales director

Mobile field sales solutions provider, O4 Corporation, has appointed Shirley Jackson as sales director for the Asia Pacific region. Jackson has more than 20 years’ experience in the blue chip software solutions market across the UK, Europe, USA and Australia. Jackson has experience in selling enterprise information management solutions, data quality, document management, business intelligence and service management solutions including best practice ITIL consultancy services across verticals such as banking, finance, government and telecommunications. She was most recently business development manager NSW, QLD and ACT for TUSC, an Information Technology Service Management (ITSM) solution provider. Previously, Jackson was Strategic Marketing Manager at CA (Computer Associates) and was responsible for developing the channel marketing communication and education program for CA-Ingres following its acquisition by CA. Jackson has also been the Southern Europe Channel Manager at Uniplex and Channel Manager at MSI.



Wavelink appointment to enhance channel strategy

Digital messaging provider Wavelink Communications has appointed Michael Whyte as channel manager, Australia and New Zealand. Previously employed as a senior sales executive at Tiecom Pty Ltd, Whyte engaged with enterprise, corporate, and government clients to assist with planning and implementing suitable ICT solutions. In this role, he was recognised by NEC Australia for large ICT sales solutions and was granted various awards. His experience in ICT spans over a decade. He has worked for Insync Projects, Redrock Communications, and NEC Australia. Whyte is also a NEC voice over IP certified consultant; Hewlett Packard certified sales engineer; and a NEXTEP broadband certified consultant.



Juniper Networks appoints ANZ channel director

Juniper Networks has appointed Rod Taylor to the newly created role of director, enterprise and channel sales for Australia and New Zealand, with immediate effect. Based in Sydney, Taylor will be responsible for strengthening Juniper’s service offering for the enterprise. Taylor has more than 25 years industry experience. He most recently headed up Asia Pacific Managed Network initiatives out of Singapore for Macquarie Telecom. Previously, Taylor held executive and senior management positions at EMC, HP, Hitachi and StorageTek. He holds an Executive MBA from the University of Hawaii as well as a Bachelors of Science in Computing from the Caulfield Institute of Technology.



SAP appoints business partner manager

He brings over 19 years of IT experience in technical, sales, partner and IT management roles. Previous employers include Cognos and Business Objects.

Mr Ravishankar was previously country manager of TCS Singapore based in the TCS regional Asia-Pacific headquarters.



Sage appoints channel manager

Accounting software vendor Sage Software Australia has appointed Steve Orleow as new Partner Development Manager to support its Business Solutions group and its business partners. He will report to Mike Lorge, managing director of Sage Business Solutions. Orleow has a commercial and strategic background. He trained as a chartered accountant in South Africa and has spent the last decade in commercial and financial roles, primarily in the high tech sector. He has run his own venture capital company, focusing on IT businesses, and spent several years developing growth strategies for new companies, or turnaround strategies for ailing divisions of existing organisations. Before that, as finance and commercial director of iAfrica.com, he was responsible for taking this early Internet publishing portal in South Africa from the business plan to becoming listed entity. Three years ago, and before joining Sage, Orleow came to Australia to establish the local operation of Striata, an electronic billing (EBPP) solution vendor.



Playability expert appointed for Australian gaming industry

Australian specialist gaming usability firm UsabilityOne, has apointed US playability expert, Keith Steury.  Playability refers to the ease with which users can negotiate their way through video games and interactive media; making the technology better for the user and driving sales for the publisher. In the past, Mr Steury. who holds a M.S. in cognitive psychology from the University of Washington, has worked on over a dozen Microsoft games, including the successful Halo series.

Dow Jones appoints new director of APAC sales

Dow Jones & Company has appointed Mark Hollands to the newly created role of Director of Sales, Asia Pacific, for the Content Technology Solutions unit of the company’s Enterprise Media Group. Prior to joining Dow Jones, Hollands was Vice President of Research Development at IT research organization Gartner. Prior to that, he was editor of the IT section of national daily newspaper, The Australian. Dow Jones has also appointed Andrew Rowe as director of marketing and channel sales for Content Technology Solutions in Asia Pacific. Rowe was formerly the sales director, Asia Pacific of Factiva, which Dow Jones acquired in December 2006.  Rowe joined Factiva in 1999 from Reuters as Sales Development Manager for Europe, Middle East and Africa. He established Factiva’s Asia Pacific operation and then ran its Customer Service and Customer Development Centre.
