Stories abound day in day out on the damage the global economic crisis is doing to all industries and many businesses, but there’s a new report just out revealing that PC demand has remained relatively resilient in the face of this downturn compared to the last.

Server shipments have plummeted in the Asia Pacific region as the economic crisis sweeping the region and the rest of the world worsens.

Virtualization vendor, VMware, has snapped up a senior manager from Computer Associates (CA) to head up its Asia Pacific and Japan regional business with responsibility for strategic planning, business development and management of key functions for the region, including sales, channels, services, finance and marketing.

After twenty-seven quarters of steady growth there’s now been a damaging decline in server shipments in the Asia Pacific region, down 5.8 percent year-on-year, and with a major impact on revenues across the main five APAC sub regions.

The Asia Pacific region is forecast to achieve growth valued at $US11.8 billion in the enterprise software market by 2012, with China and Australia respectively holding their place as the largest software markets in the region.

The average Australian now spends an hour and a half of their leisure time online each day, with most of us – 79 percent to be precise - logging in from home every day, even though many have actually met an online acquaintance in person.
